The use of multiples and the confusion of reality and artifice began to appear in my work as if by osmosis. This occurred around 2009 with a steady stream of graphite drawings. At that time I switched from oil to acrylic paint to hasten to process of releasing images. In summer 2013 I turned all the canvases to my studio wall and began to work on paper. The directness of this method is simpatico with my inclination to transfer imagery onto the surface with intuitive immediacy.
The imagery comes from many influences including my past day-jobs as a scientific, military, and editorial illustrator. Occasionally Pennsylvania Dutch motifs occur because my research into Fraktur (the illuminated writings of the early German speaking community). The multiple landscapes mixed with interiors appear spontaneously as do the subtitles and notations.Comments Off on Lawrence Charles Miller – Converge Gallery
